Reading the comments on this post, makes me shake my head in disgust. The lack of understanding of what a right is, the function of a gun, and basic human nature is appalling.

A right is something that the government is not supposed to be able to take from citizens who are law abiding. Freedom of speech, freedom to assemble, and of course the right to bear arms. If you are willing to give up any, then all can be taken.

Military grade firearms have not been available to the US public since the 1930's. Just because some look like military weapons, doesn't make them that way. Remember the Opal looked similar to a Corvette but it wasn't one.

Bad people prey on good people. It doesn't matter if they are crazy or evil. The only thing that will stop them is either fear of being stopped or force. In my view, if I need to protect myself, my family, or others, I want a gun. Where I live, I may wait 20 minutes or more for law enforcement. That is far too long.

@sunrisehawk Criminals don't obey the law.
@sunrisehawk Sooo...are you okay with the continuing shootings every other week or so ? Is that how things are just going to have to be, going forward ? What solutions do you have ?
Btw, I’m actually not anti-gun. Even though the question is about gun control, our problems are much bigger than that. As was stated there are other countries where the people have access to guns. But somehow they’re not killing each other like we are.🤔

@bijouxbroussard That is fairly insulting, I may be pro-Bill of Rights, but I never implied or said that I was okay with any shooting. I am open to identifying mentally ill with due process and while we may disagree, there are things that can afford protection that prevents or minimizes what the evil can do.

There are many differences between other countries and the USA, some are positive and some are negative.... The first step is to remove suicides from the stats and look at what is causing violence. Some of it could be solvable and some may end up being the price of freedom.. I don't know but these shootings are not stats, they are people (both victims and shooters) and we need to be looking at ways to prevent and avoid.
@sunrisehawk Even when we identify immediate causes like mental illness we don’t seem willing to do anything, though. Proposed legislation that might keep weapons out of the hands of the mentally ill, or even out of the hands of people on post 9/11 “terrorist watchlists”, fail to pass. And I truly understand that the “stats” are people, I’ve known a few victims of gun violence in my lifetime.

@bijouxbroussard Actually that we is our legislators. But when you look at the proposed legislation, anything that seems reasonable and focused is ignored. One party pushes to take/restrict guns to law abiding citizens and the other opposes that effort... Likely you and I could sit down and find some common ground, but I'll agree that that isn't happening in Congress or State Legislatures.
