Trump didn't shut it down, the Republicans never voted to keep the government open, but instead voted to NOT approve further borrowing which would have increased the US national debt by about $5 Trillion if they'd voted to borrow more money to keep the government functioning.

@swirlie lol. That’s not the general consensus. They vote to increase debt more often than democrats.
