Not really india is a mess, they want to follow the same footsteps as China but we all know that such status will lead to containment from the U.S, Modi is weak fragile leader to be honest he looks easily influence and lacks a strong will to what is needed. The reality is that India wants to be a super power and to be a super power you need to be prepare to go to war. China has much better vision for the world than the west. The West just wants to bully the world and it will not let other Super powers be in competition with them. Capitalism its in its last leg. And people are realizing develop nations have an economical power due through technology and finance to extract wealth from underdeveloped nations because their demand allows the to have that natural power. We all know West is in the business of destabilizing countries they have a record of doing so look at what they are doing in their own hemisphere poorer nations are being treated brutal and then they wonder why people from those nations flee, but that's just American business as usual.

Perhaps it is just how the worldwide rising tide of anti-others nationalism is manifesting itself in the Asian subcontinent, but it seems that India is trying to break out of any attempt by others to use them, and to be more active and assertive in the world in their own right.
It wouldn't be surprising for ANY country to wish to be more true ally/partner than puppet.
