Is it ever okay for the FBI to tackle and handcuff a senator for asking a question?

Not if asking a question is all they did, no. That would be considered assault if that's all they did.

@sstronaut because I know you will watch the video impartially, here's context:

@LordShadowfire I can hear voices, but I can't tell who the voices are coming from and it doesn't show what happened before the physical touching.

So the Senator didn't do anything wrong in that video, but he's already being touched before he's seen in this video.

Also, I have no idea what is the standard reaction for those doing security for speeches. I mean, it seemed like they went overboard, but I don't know what standard is.

@sstronaut They pretended not to know who he was because he didn't have a badge on his chest. Apparently, everybody needs badged.
@LordShadowfire The security probably didn't know who he was... security know their protocol, not nessarily people. Seriously, some security people's brains go off and they just see red when they see protocol not being followed. I've seen some security people go off on co-workers for not following security protocols.

And if everyone needs a badge then that would explain their initial reaction.

Though, a smarter security person might of been able to just throw their arm over his shoulder, or grabbed his wrist and say walk with me, to a different area and handled it respectfully. Of course, there was a clear size difference and that sometimes freaks out security people.

@sstronaut Okay, but he was identifying himself as he approached, and even after they pulled him away and knew who he was, they cuffed him in the hallway. That's the part I find concerning.
@LordShadowfire Verbal identification means absolutely nothing in the world of security... as there are so many liers.

Needed that badge that is in question, and once a certain line is crossed, even the badge won't do you any good, as protocols usually would say, once you have had to get physical, then neutralize the by detaining the and let others later figure it out.

Again, if smarter heads are at play, they can audible out for the protocols into something smarter, but either they didn't feel like they didn't have that authority, or they didn't have that smarter mind set available.

But simply put, not having that badge and then ticking off one of the security officers is enough to do this. Again, wish smarter heads would of come into play.

@sstronaut Padilla was escorted INTO the room by FBI and Secret Service.

They knew who he was.
His polo shirt had the US Senator logo on it....and again, he was escorted INTO the room. They knew who he was.

@JSul3 And let's not forget he was also escorted out of the room, and while he was being fully cooperative, he was tackled and handcuffed anyway.
