Musk did well when he got started, creating minor software tools, as part of a small group of men, that included his brother.
But he dd not invent the things he became famous for.
Tesla was started by someone else, and was small company when Musk found them. He used the small amount of cash he had, to buy a majority of shares.
He hen convinced the Obama administration to give him $285M as Obama was kicking off the Green Revolution.
Thanks to excitement of the Obama era, Musk found a wild following that bough Musk's story of a car that runs on electricity, goes hundreds of miles on a single charge and costs $10.
He went public, and was able to use the mini to hire experts, who were able to talk competently, while the team built the first car. People pre-paid and waited for years.
I got tired 3 years later and demanded a refund without seeing a car.
Tesla's stock skyrocketed and Musk took the money to eventually ship a car.
Similar story with SpaceX. Stripping NASA from its space exclusivity was also part of Obama's plan. Musk invested in this other company, and was a hair from bankruptcy. The government to the rescue following Obama's plan to jump start the private space industry, with a $1.2B handout.
Musk likes to pretend this never happened and it was all him.
@Northwest Show me a Tesla car (other than a matchbox model) that costs $10. 8-) Musk might have destroyed his brand via the Cybertruck debacle and his elevation to 'pseudo politician' as the Cult lead of D.O.G.E under Trump.
Musk is a genius as an innovator. He has made contrbutions to the advancement of power transmition, satellite communication and space travel.. But like so many innovators he will be overtaken by those who follow in a few years..And sadly he believes in his own omnipotence. Which was hasten the process..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman You should read Walter Isaacson's Musk's biography. There's a pacific ocean size gap between what he claims he's innovated and what he actually did. Not surprisingly why he and Trump get along so well.
@Northwest Plus Musk did *not* create or start up Tesla. He rolled in and got rid of the founders and now claims Telsa is totally his own 'baby' (while he keeps pumping out actual babies with his trophy wives).
I'm not a Trump supporter or Project 2025 supporter. I think Elon is a grifter and no genius. Elon didn't invent anything, he bought other people's inventions and put his name on them.
@basilfawlty89 The big myth of Capitalism is that it's a meritocracy, but the story of most rich people is the story of Elon Musk. Get born into wealth, make a business, hire other people to do the work, take a share of the profits, and become even richer.
I do think Elon Musk is more dangerous than the average billionaire, but how he became a billionaire is pretty average.
