Donald Tusk of Poland is doing a pretty good job of restoring the democratic rule of law after 8 years of populist conservative government.

@SunshineGirl He's a disaster, and a very unpleasant individual. Fascinating that you regard "populist conservative government " as undemocratic. Does it not occur to you that they were elected, in a perfectly fair system?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@MartinII doesn't occur to socialists
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MartinII They were elected and then far exceeded their democratic mandate by undermining the independence of the judiciary, attacking human rights, and blaming their failures on minority groups. Winning an election does not give you carte blanche to do ignore the constitution and international law. That is why Poland is now a conservative free zone.

@SunshineGirl Well, I certainly agree with your penultimate sentence. That may or may not be a good thing, but it's certainly the very opposite of democratic.

@SunshineGirl You sound like a clueless liberal. I bet you love Justin Castreau of Canada.

@hippyjoe1955 I am a very clued up liberal. The last government in Poland all but made abortion illegal. I am happy that my cousins now need not seek the permission of the courts, or travel to another country, for matters relating to their own bodies. I am happy that the elderly Bulgarian couple who gave me cakes when I was a little girl on holiday at my grandparents' farm have full legal redress for the racist attacks on their property.
