Do you trust the government?

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion but I do. I went to public schools. Ive gotten government/ state health benefits. i was on welfare for a couple months. ive gotten pell grants. teh government cares about you. they work for our safety and security. i may not agree with every action they take but i think they would know better than me and probably have their good reasons for it. sure i might think if i was in charge we'd do this or that but i dont want the responsibility. call me lazy lol, but what power to have to alter their actions anyway? i mean sure if it meant enough to me i might get involved. but thats a beauty of out government. our voices can be heard when we want it to be.

Throwing in a second comment. I don't think people coherently know what the government -is- a lot of the time.
@CountScrofula I know for a fact that's the case. I don't know how many times somebody's asked me if I trust the government, only to go on to complain about a particular politician they don't like. And I'm always like, "If you don't like him, don't vote for him." Which almost half the time leads to them saying something stupid like, "I don't vote, because it doesn't do any good."

@LordShadowfire Right. Do I trust the federal government of Canada to make wise domestic policy decisions in my own self-interest? Eh, not really.

Do I trust my local municipality to make sure my garbage is handled? Sure.

@LordShadowfire Conversely, do I trust this individual councilor who I know is a piece of shit to be good at his job? no, but there's six other people with votes. It's complicated.
@CountScrofula Exactly. 90% of the time, when people say they don't trust government at whatever level, it's because they don't trust a particular person in the government.
