If like half the nation stopped paying taxes do you think there would be martial law?

Yes. Why don’t you like paying taxes? Taxes rates can be lowered but canceling them completely is a bad idea. You’ll have to privatize all infrastructures, roads, schools, healthcare, education even the government. Imagine a President needing Apple’s or Googles approval before lifting any finger. Poor population will quadruple because corporate interests don’t allow a redistribution of wealth. The country will turn into a banana republic!! Google banana republic to remind you what happens when a corporation governs a country.

@eMortal As a matter of fact, you kinda hit the nail on the head. Taxes are needed to pay for the legitimate functions of government and they are usually voted into law by representatives who are elected by the people. Doesn't mean there are better ways to tax, nor does it mean that government is wisely spending those tax dollars. But since half the country pays no taxes, but instead receives welfare checks, there won't be much effort in trying to make taxation more efficient and fairer.
