I just checked my social security statement and ….

It says that they overpaid me almost $5,000 and they want their money back! Wtf? How does something like that even happen? I don’t have money like that to give them for their mistakes! There was some kind of a waiver thing I could fill out to hopefully get them to waive it so I will do that.
Has this happened to anyone else here?

Is it ssi survivor benefits? If so, they keep paying during the year and will overpay, then ask for it back. This can happen if you are still working. Call your local social security office and they will clear it up for you, it all depends on how much money you earned.
