I just checked my social security statement and ….

It says that they overpaid me almost $5,000 and they want their money back! Wtf? How does something like that even happen? I don’t have money like that to give them for their mistakes! There was some kind of a waiver thing I could fill out to hopefully get them to waive it so I will do that.
Has this happened to anyone else here?

They will agree to take 10% of the overpayment from your benefit each month until paid off

@GJOFJ3 I can’t survive on a 10% cut in my paycheck

@Mardrae Make sure SS administration knows that. Go to your Congress person, too.

@graphite I don’t know how to do that. They have only given me 30 days to pay it and 3 days to get the waiver in.

@Mardrae Find out who your Congress person is and call their office. Call your City Hall if you don't know.

@graphite Also, go down to your local SS office if you can. An in-person visit is probably better than a phone call in this case.

@graphite I plan on going down there on my next day off, which is next Friday. But I’m going to call the office Monday morning too
