I just checked my social security statement and ….

It says that they overpaid me almost $5,000 and they want their money back! Wtf? How does something like that even happen? I don’t have money like that to give them for their mistakes! There was some kind of a waiver thing I could fill out to hopefully get them to waive it so I will do that.
Has this happened to anyone else here?

This says you have to pay them back within 3 years. The money can be deducted from your check in installments.

@graphite I don’t understand how this happened!

@Mardrae Could be some misfiling of something, could be their mistake. Try to get them to waive at least some of it, try to pay it back in minimal monthly installments. You could contact an attorney but that will set you back another $300, at least. Might be worth it.

@graphite I did contact my lawyer. He’s a friend and helps me out for free a lot
