What do we actually want our President and Congress to do?

I think it should be to enact domestic improvements.

I think our President and Congress should enact programs that benefit all the people. For our taxes we should get:

*A first-rate public education system,
*High quality affordable health care,
*Affordable housing,
*A first world public transit system,
*A well-maintained infrastructure.

Our national defense should protect our country, but we should not consider ourselves the world's policeman. We should not be in the empire business.

Yup!

it's always about Greed and Power. There are SOME in our government that really are for the PEOPLE, not just a 'Base' they care about our future, Hell, they just WANT a future.

We used to have a well funded public school system and we (US) were in top placement in growth, we had an 'Age of Reason' (Looooong gone now). This is what happens when greed takes over. We were so Progressive as a country (US) and trying to get there again may never happen. We used to dream big, go to the moon even, then it stopped when the separation of Church and State became a Marriage of Church and State.

When I was in school they provided paper, pencils, Kleenex, toilet paper, but when my daughter was in school, I bought ALL that stuff! Greed, man, I'm telling ya!

In order for this to work all members of the government must put their differences aside and work together.

My friend, this is the US in 2022. All we want them to do is tell us we're the best and reward us for it.
True, we want certain things, but government does something else.

@Roundandroundwego We have to tell the government what we want. The Bill of Rights article one guarantees "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The American empire has been in decline for generations.

Could we apply to China's Belt and Road Initiative for road, power and water system upgrades? They do awesome trains too.

We pay plenty in taxes. The money mainly goes to the military, football stadiums and more cops.

@Crazywaterspring You forgot the illegal aliens on the government dole
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
@sunsporter1649 What money do you think " illegal aliens" get? And the poor on the dole (general assistance) are a tiny public expense. Corporations, Wall Street and corrupt military contractors, however, steal vastly more, to the tune of hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. Bail-outs, subsides, huge tax breaks and out right gifts of money from the tax-payers go to corporations and the super rich. Let's change that shall we?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@badminton Texans pay between $579 million and $717 million each year for public hospital districts to provide uncompensated care for illegal aliens.

Texans paid $152 million to house illegal criminal aliens for just one year.

Texans pay between $62 million and $90 million to include illegal aliens in the state Emergency Medicaid program.

Texans paid more than $1 million for The Family Violence Program to provide services to illegal aliens for one year.

Texans pay between $30 million and $38 million per year on perinatal coverage for illegal aliens through the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Texans pay between $31 million and $63 million to educate unaccompanied alien children each year.

Tiny public expense my ass

Sadly, that isn't how politics and government works. Money and power are all that matters and all that ever has.
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
@hunkalove That's why we urgently need campaign finance reform. Our politicians, Republican and Democrat, are bribed with campaign contributions by corporations and Wall Street to do their bidding. The most important step is to repeal the disastrous Citizens v. United Supreme Court decision.

President Biden has taken an important first step by introducing a measure to ban anonymous campaign contributions. The special interests bribing our representatives do not want to be exposed.

@sunsporter1649 I don't believe government by itself is the problem. It is who controls that government.

I remember my older relatives talking about the great depression. They blamed 'big business' for that economic disaster. They were very grateful to President Roosevelt and his New Deal for helping them during a crisis. Government can be beneficial or harmful depending on who controls it.
