Why do we act like Government is some autonomous agency that happens along societies, woos them and then oppresses them, all while unwitting citizens are hard at work?

Blaming "government" is like blaming your house's drywall because the family inside can't get along. We create the policies and visions; we elect the workers; we are in charge of the maintenance of the way of life we choose; and we are accountable as the Chairmen/women of the Board of the US to ensure the people we choose and the paths we forge are sound and lead us to our goals.

Only a government responsive to the needs of the people and beholden to the desires of the people can provide for the people.
Democracy also requires an informed and engaged public.
Given the mental challenges involved in becoming adult, authentic citizens, we can probably all agree that the USA annot be a Democracy. Too sick, stupid, uneducated, overworked, poor and misinformed.
