Why is college education that expensive in the US? I mean the costs are insanely high.

@SW-User The high costs won't be addressed as long as Uncle Sam is providing slush money to the system.
I totally agree with you.
I totally agree with you.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@SW-User Because state Universities are operated by the state. If you want cost to go up, just get the government involved.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@nudistsueaz But it buys us such wonderful indoctrination! 🤩
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@irishmolly72 It does and with our own money.....

SW-User
@nudistsueaz In Germany most Universities are funded by the state and the costs are very low
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@nudistsueaz Don't you just LOVE socialism??
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@SW-User and France used to provide wonderful health care. Now the system is falling apart under the weight of its own inefficiency. There's a pattern here.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@irishmolly72 No, I never have.

SW-User
@irishmolly72 It's failing how so?
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@SW-User That's Germany, not the USA.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@SW-User People are dying waiting for care. The waiting lines are incredible now, even for essential life saving care.

@SW-User It is America. Everything has to involve financial exploitation. It is the American way.

Totally false. The American system is falling apart and the most inefficient healthcare in the developed world.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@irishmolly72 And you have demonstrated you have no idea what socialism is.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Europe is an absolute economic basket case. That is beyond dispute. Health care included.
Putin is laughing his ass off about all this.

@irishmolly72 More bullshit. Your ignorance is comical.

SW-User
@irishmolly72 Could you give me some evidence on that?
Waiting for care has slightly risen in France but nothing of the like you describe. In the US system you are either rich or you die cause healthcare gets you in debt.

@SW-User I would not hold my breath for any supporting evidence for any of their claims.

It's odd that the French are not even aware of this.

I wish I could teach you what irony means. What do you think providing additional support to the educational system means? That $10K per student in loan forgiveness, goes toward that.

@Northwest It's been on French news quite a lot recently.

And what French news sources do you follow? I follow French news, and like every country, it's a challenge, but overall, the French system works well.
I visited an acquaintance of mine, a couple of months ago, in France. He had a brush with cancer, requiring a couple of surgeries, chemo and follow-up. All done expertly, at no cost to him. Not even a cab fare, as this required some specialized equipment that was not available in his town, so even transportation was covered, and post-op home care. Not a single Euro from his pocket.

@Northwest There is something to this but not for the reasons Molly thinks:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/11/french-medics-health-service-collapse-doctors-nurses-protest-outside-french-health-ministry-strikes#:~:text=The%20centrist%20French%20president%2C%20Emmanuel,the%20hospital%20system%20will%20collapse.
It's because of cuts and also strikes that they are having problems, not the setup. Germany has a similar single-payer system and that is working better.
The NHS is also struggling because of a post-pandemic backlog and a budget squeeze. This is in addition to rising costs of healthcare and Baby Boomers getting older.
Conservative American news must pick up on these stories and then put its own (disingenuous) spin on them. None of the issues are actually caused by structural inefficiency or by models that worked fine before suddenly not working. Ironically these problems are caused by right-leaning reform agendas.
