FYI- If we want to lower inflation then tarrifs might do the opposite, it might increase prices instead!

I think it might increase gas, food, and goods like tv's etc.

Example! If we buy maple syrup from Canada and Canada has a tariff then Canada will increase their prices on Maple syrup and we have to pay more for that maple syrup!

Tariffs wil only increase prices.
Also if people start manufacturing the tariffed goods in the USA then they will charge nearly as much as the imported goods. A tee shirt that cost 8 bucks before a tariff now becomes 12 bucks when imported .an American manufacturer starts to make them and charges 8 bucks..so the consumer gains nothing even if he buys locally made.

@Entwistle Yes, that is true.

@Entwistle my math according to your analysis the consumer saves $4 in case you missed it 12-8 is 4 so they save that amount genius isn’t it
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Prison1203 No,the consumer still pays $8. He initially paid that for a foreign made, imported tee shirt..before the tariff was applied.
The consumer saves no money..as he won't pay $12 for the imported tee shirt.

@Entwistle I suggest that you read your post, where you say that a local makes the shirts and charges $8 and the Canadian shirt cost $12 and the consumer pays for the local guys shirt so he won’t buy the $12 shirt so he in essence saves $4 because he doesn’t buy the tariff shirt and that manufacturer in Canada goes under. That’s actually making jobs for Americans and opens a new market for them

@Prison1203 You seem to lack comprehension skills.
Nowhere did I say the consumer would continue to buy the tee shirt that now cost $12..(although that option would be available to him).
I was noting that the consumer used to pay $8 for the imported tee shirt but NOW he will pay $8 for locally made tee shirt. Therefore he has made no saving whatsoever.

@Entwistle he saved $4 from not buying the $12 shirt if he was planning on buying a bunch of them prior to the tariffs and had paid for them prior to the tariffs and then he gets hit with them being $12 now, he could cancel that order and buy local therefore saving money , so you get it now ?

@Prison1203 You really are a bit special aren't you?
Nowhere in my equation was he prepared to pay $12 for the shirt..he could have done if he had wanted to though.
However he now buys his $8 shirts from within the USA...he used to pay $8 for the imported one..now he chooses not to pay $12 for the tariffed shirt..yet he still pays $8..so for him no saving has been made. Hope this helps you Einstein!

@Entwistle I guess don’t under the concept that the guy purchased a lot of shirts at the $8 price point and then that company tried to o er charge him $12 per shirt after the tariffs which have Ben paused. Btw so he cancelled the tariffed order and bought locally and saved money. You really are a helmet wearing window licker aren’t you

@Prison1203 Dude perhaps you shouldn't drink on an empty head?

@Prison1203 You're assuming the local supplier will continue to sell at $8. If the imported t-shirt is $12 then the local supplier can easily increase prices go $10-11 and increase their profits. That's what you call Capitalism!
