Omar Khadr has just recieved his 10 million dollars that he won in the suit against the canadian government. How do you feel about that?

I don't think they were wrong to give it to him.
He was detained as a minor, held without trial and tortured for a decade.
The canadian and american government violated his human rights.

Frankly all these people saying he's a traitor and didn't deserve a trial or deserved to die are acting in exactly the manner they hate the terrorists for acting.

The soldier Omar had killed rescued two children.. he didn't deserve to die and Omar had every choice not to do it. Also clearly people like Omar and the rest of his terrorist buddies don't really give a shit about the country they are fighting for when they also attack Muslim citizens.

Muslims have been celebrating Mosul lately and they been holding festivals because ALL of that is banned under the group Omar was fighting FOR. I don't believe that's a person I can stand behind.

@SatanBurger Ignore the crime because your rights don't change according to what crime you may, or may not commit. He was a Canadian citizen and a minor who was shot and apprehended overseas, tried without a lawyer, tortured, and imprisoned. The Canadian government was an active participant.

Even if he's the worst bad guy ever, he gets the rights of any Canadian citizen. Because if he doesn't and we get to pick and chose who gets freedoms, then we are not a free country, and our soldiers are fighting for nothing.

The payout he got was a settlement, because our government fucked up and knew they would pay WAY more if they went to trial.

This is not his award for being a terrorist. It's the penalty our government gets for fucking up and refusing a citizen his rights.

Soldiers kill other men in war. Those men might have saved lives, loved their wives and cherished their children. War is shit.
It's also beside the point.

Even aside from the fact that there was no evidence presented that proved khadr was actually guilty of the "crime" of which he was accused, the reason he won the 10 million was because the canadian (and american government) was complicit in the subversion of his rights.
That's how the justice system works, satanburger. We don't pick and choose who gets to benefit from it.
Or are you comfortable presuming guilt until proven innocent? Are you in favour of stripping human rights as long as you consider the target a bad guy?
Tell me, in what way does that differ from the terrorists who want to take your rights and freedoms?

@CaptainCanadia I'm not sure why you assume he was a citizen. In my opinion he revoked his right to citizenship. He clearly had the same values as the group he was joining because he was fighting FOR a group that is not only against a certain sect of Islam but also against democracy.. from their own words themselves. Like they've stated a clear agenda not once but several times.

I never said he was the "worst guy ever" but I just don't think that when a 15 year old up and joins a terrorist organization he just somehow is so young and brainless that he "didn't know what he was doing."

You have got to stop misrepresenting the situation.
He was taken overseas at nine years old. He was a child soldier. It's more than a little indigenous to characterize that as "up and joining a terrorist organization".
Do you know what a child soldier is? Are you under the impression that they are usually well informed and knowing participants in war?

So what you've said is that based on your misrepresentation of events and assumptions that you have made with no foundation, he doesn't deserve his rights.
