For those of you who call yourselves feminist... Why?

I am not speaking about the radical feminist but the one's with a genuine heart. Who truly want equal rights for men and women. Just seem to go at it in a way where they tend to ignore the negative lights of what feminism has brought. I am not speaking for first wave. Just second and third and I am only speaking for the country we currently reside in. Not those we have no control over. What's the point? Many of the serious issues we talk about for women have equal equivalent issues for men. What's the point of labeling yourself and supporting the very thing that's making things worse? Even if you have the right heart. The ones who shout and influence this country generally don't. The only way to solve that to me is by finding a word that is an example of what we are striving for. And well in my opinion what we already have. Differences will always arise unless we force those differences away or pretend they don't exist. Sexism will always be a thing until we are exactly the same. But the reason feminism was apparent was not to worry about every small difference. What's the point of calling yourself a feminist? I hope you can understand me.

It might not be obvious but empowerment in society is normally accomplished by what you earn. Even with a positive PR on where women are they still earn 70% of an equivalent wage for an equivalent position for a man.
It is strange how things like that get by in an infrastructure of a society. I hope you understand this gap can be so debilitating for women trying "to play by society's rules".

@Pfuzylogic: The wage gap... You might disagree with me. But every honest source I looked into doesn't believe in it. Most people who are serious about there work do not take that seriously. If you would like you can research it yourself. Online and on youtube. Just search up The Wage Gap debunked and it will explain you why it isn't true and even says that women earn more!

@PiceousPanda: I see that you have taken a political position on the wage differential and don't believe that it is real.
I am very much in disagreement there as well as those that are not white being at a disadvantage with wages.
Thank you for your sage unsolicited advise. Are you really under 21.
You have such a confidence in your personal position and wisdom.

@Pfuzylogic: I believe in a sense that it is a real but I don't believe it is a womens issue. There are cases where people do get paid unequally like my own mom... But it was based on her nationality. It is illegal. So what can you do? I think it is a small minority honestly and yeah I'm under 21. :)

@PiceousPanda: I buy statistics from reliable research organizations. There are so many unreliable news sources i.e. Breitbart that play a strong right wing political angle. I prefer The Pew Research Center in which I stand corrected at 83%. I remember in the 70s where my Mothers wages were so minuscule and many i.e. Lawyers would hire her based on the requirement that she dated them. It was truly disgusting and reprehensible and the ERA, a feminist organization, was the only legitimate political power that women had to curb the abuses by men. That must seem like a long time ago for you!

@Pfuzylogic: It does sound like a long time from here. And hm. What is reliable and what isn't? At least do some research and keep an open mind! I do believe there is a wage gap. I just don't believe it is undeserved. If you mean the difference between what both genders make. Then yes there is a wage gap. But if you talking specifically about being fairly underpaid because of there gender. Then you need to look more into that. And do research to actually understand. I personally don't look for organizations to help me. I do what I want and there is no real barrier because of my gender. It is simply made up. It is illegal as I said to discriminate in pay.

@PiceousPanda: I hope you took my example of sexual harassment seriously.
It was common then and I see it even today when Supervisors impose themselves on opposite gender workers.
It is really a shame and there are too few advocacy groups.

@Pfuzylogic: I take both issues from both sexes seriously. The issue I have with feminism is it encourages us both men and women to only take one side seriously. This is why I don't even support Mens rights movement. What I have noticed is feminism only has encouraged people to only sympathize with women and disregard men. I wish we would just let go of sides and see both men and women as equal as they are. They both have pain they have to go through. That is all I see in today's society and I don't like it. It weakens both men and women in my opinion. We want equality but we still don't mind that men stay in there bubble of masculinity and women to explore themselves. We think it's sexist that women can't be like men but we find it repulsive to imagine a man having the same issues as a women. Do you understand? It's very hard to open up to this because yeah we do see guys as macho and we think it's silly for them to complain but for me. I find it a bit hypocritical and sad and I personally would not want to raise a son with those ideas and in a environment like that.

@PiceousPanda: I see you are missing my point in historical sexual harassment and the inability for women to gain needed legal protection and advocacy.
PiceousPanda · 22-25, F
I see your point but I see where you are trying to come from. I have not research enough on that to put my opinion in. I am just stating why I feel the way I feel. And why I don't give much special treatment to either gender as many do sadly. I see us all as human beings. With problems that can arise. The problem is when you put aside someone else based on who they are. Again I don't know much about it and havent given that much thought to tell you my specific opinion.

@PiceousPanda: I see your hesitation to take a position. You really haven't experienced how awful it was and how unfairly empowered men will exploit a power differential to harass and assault others.
PiceousPanda · 22-25, F
I haven't experienced much but it's hard for me to take a position. People have bad experiences constantly in modern times and bcak then. My mother works with the elderly and I've had many women explain to me how crappy modern time is compared to what they've experienced. I also had a one conversations with a women who's mother absolutely hated it back then. That is why I'm hesitant. I can't take one experience for every experience. I honestly feel like your exaggerating it a little bit because of one persons pain. Painful moments in life won't dissapear
Pfuzylogic · M
@PiceousPanda: I would say it is a bit presumptuous to say that I am exaggerating. Honestly it comes across as a bit disrespectful.
PiceousPanda · 22-25, F
I'm sorry. I wouldn't call it exaggeration. But we tend to fix ourselves into things that have been apart of our lives. Even I have that habit.
Pfuzylogic · M
@PiceousPanda: Agreed❣️
