Hung is not what we want.

@Gumba1000: Best result I could possibly hope for!!

@Matthew: Your aspirations aren't high enough.

Labour are never going to get a majority. When the election was called tories thought that they would increase there majority by a massive amount. It would be fan-fucking-tactic if the tories lose their majority and then Labour could make a coalition with the SNP. BRILLIANT!
Gumba1000 · M
@Matthew: Why on Earth would that be brilliant? Why would you trust people who don't have a basic grasp of numbers with your money? Why would you want a man who would ally with SNP and dismantle Great Britain by cutting Scotland out the union? Why would you want that situation on top of leaving the EU? Do you like shooting yourself in your foot with an economic machine gun?

😂😂😂 A Labour-SNP coalition would be great and (although it's unlikely) if they used it to get out of the union that would be just fantastic.
Gumba1000 · M
@thatscottishguy: It wouldn't, it would be poor for both Scotland and England.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
Would be terrific.

@thatscottishguy: Is maths taught in Scotland? Take oil profits out of your equations and explain how Scotland maintains it's living standard it's used to.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
Like any country does. We have all sorts of different industries that can make us a successful country. New Zealand left the empire and have about the same population as us. There are smaller countries with less natural resources than us that have been successful. Even the likes of David Cameron has had to admit we could be successful.
Gumba1000 · M
@thatscottishguy: That is a lot of hope and not a lot of realism. Scotland independent would have to live without its grant from England and would have to shoulder it's portion of the UK national debt alone. Independent Scotland means living standards falling for Scottish people. You would have to have higher taxes to be able to afford your free university places and free elderly social care. You would have to make your own currency which when not linked to the pound would make it very weak and susceptible to volatile peaks and dips. Your food prices and utility prices would go up because the mass buying power would be reduced. I think that future is scary enough to want to avoid.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
I'm fine with higher taxes and we won't be paying for shite like trident and HS2. The "grant" we get is actually a fraction of what we send down south. Scotland can't actually borrow and our debt has been assigned to us. If we were to have our own currency that debt would not need to be paid and although we can keep the pound, I would rather not. Are you saying people in Scotland would struggle for good?😂 Imagine that. Nobody needs foodbanks or anything now😂. Tell me how so many countries with less than us can do well?
Gumba1000 · M
@thatscottishguy: You don't seem to understand how much the NHS, social services, emergency services, education system and infrastructure cost. Yours cost more to run because there is a greater area to cover with fewer people and they are all spread out.

You would need to pay your share of the national debt, you would owe the IMF and World Bank.

Sorry to dispel the Salmond thinking but if the UK says you can't use the pound then you can't. Scotland doesn't own it.

The countries that have less than you but do well don't have the welfare system you have. I assume you are talking about countries like New Zealand and not Luxembourg. New Zealand where their citizens are poorer per person that the average Scot.

You would also have to sign to trade treaties with the entire world. These might not be as favourable as you hope.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
You mean trade with places like the EU? Our NHS is losing funding because of the UK. Our welfare system is losing funding because of the UK. Basically in the UK we are having these problems anyway. There is no doubt there would be a tough transition but to argue Scotland doesnt have the potential is BBC bullshit. Also the head of the bank of England said we could use the pound, other places that aren't part of the UK use it and as I said I don't want us to use it anyway. Now I need to stop letting this shit distract me.
