@GlassDog: Yeah, but not always something new. There's only so many times you can say "Syrian war still ongoing, no new developments" before it gets boring. That's why the news is called "the news".
Besides, Parliament is currently disbanded before the election, so there's a gap in the news where the government stuff would be. Journalists like to call that "silly season".

@Gauntlets28: Yeah, only the UK government, though. There are another 190 countries. Although I guess they have to keep repeating the same stuff to make sure you get the most important news no matter what time you tune in.
