Who's you favorite politician/political figure?

For me Ron Paul by far

Harrison Ford. I loved the way he saved Air Force One.
Socialclutz · 36-40, M
Yes, he should have been president over obama and President Trump. But I still respect my current President.

jfk,fdr obama as past presidents. today bernie sanders, joe biden, corey banks and marco rubio
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Bernie Sanders, Jeremy Corbyn and Pablo Iglesias.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Is Pablo related to Julio?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Jackjjacksonjr: LOL. I don't think so.

Pablo is the leader of Podemos, a Spanish political party that I really like and he has a classically leftist background.
Bernie Sanders. Also rather partial to Jeff Merkley.

Do you think we have heard pretty much the last from Senator Sanders?
You mean in terms of presidential ambitions? I admit I have no clear idea what he is likely to do. He never seemed to actually want to be president, and as a senator he can focus his attention where he seems to want to focus it, namely changing the structure of the Democratic Party and involving the younger generation in politics.

His bid for the presidency in 2016 was simply the fulfillment of a promise to launch a campaign in the event that no "progressive" took up the challenge against the Anointed One, and Martin O'Malley, while not quite a corporatist on the level of Hillary "Anointed One" Clinton, just didn't qualify. That said, I do think that with the energy he generated, if he wanted the nomination next time it would be his for the taking. I don't really see any other Democrats out there with anywhere near his popularity or clarity of vision.

Moreover, even the Democrats that I do respect, like Jeff Merkley, Sherrod Brown, Sheldon Whitehouse, Jack Reed, and so on, generally have no name recognition outside their home states and seemingly no actual presidential ambitions. Reed, for instance, rejected the chance to be the VP choice for Obama in '08 before any offer was even made. None of the aforementioned have ever made a bid for the White House before. Sanders, like them, seems to be a career legislator, more interested in party politics and the national conversation than in governing.

Will he run again? I think his previous near-miss at the Democratic nomination will give him cause to at least think it over when the time comes. Ultimately, I believe it will come down to whether he thinks that the 2020 field has any chance of yielding up a nominee that can unseat Donald Trump, which will depend on a host of factors that I certainly can't predict right now. But if there is a Democrat in 2020 that looks capable of beating Trump, then yes, I think he'll stay out of it. In truth, he can probably do more meaningful work where he is than he could as president. The Democratic Party is too beholden to the corporatists to be ready for another FDR figure, as the tenure of Barack Obama sadly shows.

@IvanKaramazov:

Excellent analysis. I agree. Mrs Warren is glaringly absent from your analysis and I also heartily agree with that. Fortunately DWS shot herself in the foot so the democratic decks may well be cleared for a real liberal. In today's world a real liberal certainly has a more realistic chance of winning that Senstor McGovrrn did in 1972. What happens with the total anomaly that is President Trump is interesting. Imagine if he says 2.5 yrsrs or so from now "my work here is done" and doesn't seek reelection? I seriously think that is s real possibility. What is your take on the United Airlines situation?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
President Trump closely followed by Theodore Roosevelt and then Ike.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
That is a strange mix Jackson. FDR is my favourite US President.

@Burnley123:

Not a bad choice. I'm eclectic far from an iconoclast 😜
