Why is challenging permissive parenting so important?

Because it is a philosophy which is self-evidently untrue but has been so successfully propagandized by Left-wing ideologues, over the last half-century, that it has acquired the status held by the Gospels in former times. The goal is the destruction, or marginalization, of the family, which is the most important remaining institution standing between the state and the individual.

First, the goal of permissive parenting is not "the destruction or marginalization of the family." It is a parenting style promoted by well-meaning researchers and educators, same as any other parenting style.

The only scientific critique of permissive parenting is that students tend to achieve lower grades. If that is your measure of success, then it is evidently less effective (which is not to say ineffective). On other markers like empathy and creativity, it proves more successful than other styles. Still in all, most experts believe several parenting styles coalesced to form a broad but consistent style is the best approach.

Incidentally, the Bible called for stoning children to death. That is printed in the OT, but no laws were suddenlly changed between the OT and the gospels.
They are “well-meaning” in the sense they sincerely believe in their ideological agenda and that it is in the greater good to mislead parents with their phony research (which was undoubtedly funded to a great extent by taxpayer dollars) as an organization of some 69,000 pediatricians and pediatric researchers were sufficiently alarmed they issued a warning last month: https://similarworlds.com/story?fid=2327115&tid=596949&name=I-Am-A-Strict-Mom

@beckychandler: You have a skewed perception of the truth here. One, the entire medical community isn't alarmed about a warning that suddenly this approach for parenting is dangerous. Many, many research studies have been performed on this technique over the years, on other techniques, and comparisons of techniques. Permissive parenting is in no way condemned by the medical community as a whole and no "final conclusion" are ever made in science. Permissive parenting has its detractors and its champions.

And let's solve this right away: Scientists and researchers work for the sake of knowledge and discovery. Science has nothing to do with politics or government. The scientific community is such that the competition wouldn't even allow such subservience to government. They are not pawns kept in a dark room to "prove" whatever the leader you don't like tries to say.

Discovery, enlightenment and progression are not the devil's toys. They're what we should strive for an dismissing anything out of hand precludes people from doing just that.
