Understanding US foreign policy: Why are we attacking Iran and containing China?
US foreign policy has been consistent and not changed since the founding of the nation 250 years ago. The US bases in the Middle East as well as those elsewhere all over the world are the modern forms of US Army forts that protected settlers' economic well-being from attacks by savages in the wilderness.
In the tradition of the US Calvary that defended the stage-coaches of the wild frontier, today the US Navy's worldwide reach guards every sea routes to ensure international commercial traffic flows freely and unimpeded. This is the reason why Iran has to be dealt with in the same manner the US Army forced the Apaches to a settlement in Arizona.
There is nowhere for China to go except to acquiesce to the rules-based international order that governs how countries must interact or else.
