The day after a vote by the Hamtramck City Council to remove two officials who flew a Pride flag on city property, the city’s mayor alleged that Attorney General Dana Nessel was part of an intimidation campaign by the LGBTQ+ community.
On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously voted to remove Russ Gordon and Cathy Stackpoole from the Hamtramck Human Relations Commission after they flew a Pride flag over a public sidewalk. The action came in response to the all-Muslim council’s vote in June, which is Pride Month, to prohibit certain flags, including the Pride flag, from being displayed on city-owned property.

Hamtramck, A city that once had more bars per capita than any other place in the country was now dominated by a culture that forbids alcohol. What was a hot spot of artists and musicians known for a liberal acceptance of eccentricities and differences now drew international attention when the Muslim city council voted to ban the gay pride flag from city properties. And what had been a quiet, working-class town suddenly became internationally famous as an example of what sudden demographic change looks like.

@DogMan It didn't last forever.
According to what I read in history books, prohibition ended in 1933, much to the delight of many who enjoyed a recreational drink before and even during prohibition and the dismay of many puritannical Christians who continued to see alcohol as a sin.

@Sidewinder So you don't believe Islam will change things to suit their ideology?
Sidewinder · 36-40, M

I thought yanks were okay with people renaming stuff. Like the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@AdmiralPrune I don't think they renamed anything yet. Not sure what you are talking about.
I think it's great that they banned the Pride flags. I don't think have Islamic signs everywhere
is cool though.

@DogMan Do you mean signs in Arabic? No offence but Ive been to plenty of places in the US where signs in Spanish are common.
You just need to be a big boy about it.

Don't be in a hurry during the call to prayer. You must wait for traffic when the time comes.
There will be no dissent.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
You are obliged to perform the 'Asr and Maghrib prayers at their prescribed fixed time and it is not permissible to delay them
When traffic might be affected
Some Muslim communities, especially when mosques are closed or space is limited, may gather in public areas for communal prayer. In rare cases, this can involve placing prayer mats in street lanes, which may temporarily slow or stop traffic

If it is a voluntary, brief, and lawful gathering (e.g., in a parking lot, sidewalk, or designated public space), traffic is usually not halted.
If it involves blocking lanes or intersections, this can disrupt traffic and may require police coordination or local permission
