@pdockal Based on my logic, no, cars do not need to be banned because cars provide a service, transportation, to society when used properly. A gun’s purpose is at least to wound if not in fact kill its victim, and some guns are made to be really efficient at killing people.
Yes, I understand why our constitution contains the Second Amendment. Look at which delegates were most in favor of it: Southerners. In many areas of the antebellum South black slaves easily outnumbered their wealthy white masters. The white guys had to have some way to keep slaves from escaping or rebelling. The solution? Guns!
I’m under no illusion that we’re going to get rid of it in my lifetime, but we should all be able to agree now that guaranteeing the right to keep guns to keep black folks enslaved is not a good, ethical idea.
