Does Cry-Baby-trump have the power of suggestion over the maga-nuts... or is it something else?

Might be the other way round. He identified ideas and beliefs they hold, and worked on those to gain his fans' support.

@ArishMell Interesting... so they are manipulating each other... in a perpetual dance of the morons.

@MarkPaul Yes, but we also see it elsewhere; moronic or not.

It's partly how Orban in Hungary, and Erdogan in Turkey, came to power.

It shows with Marine LePen in France and Nigel Farage in the UK, too.

Such leaders exploit genuine, widely-held fears and promise vague but heavy-handed answers they know their followers will like without having to think about them. So mutual support.

Those people are often broadly described as far-Right wing and "populist" but back in the 1950s - 70s, most of these types were on the far-Left, the vague word "populist" did not exist and they tended to attract many intellectual people you'd think not easily swayed by cliched rhetoric.

Same mutual manipulation; just different countries and ideology.
