CNN: Navy weighs renaming carrier slated to honor Black war hero, potentially switching it to Trump.
Not only would it be a disgrace to name ANYTHING involving the military after Trump, but it would also be unprecedented to name an aircraft carrier after a sitting president.
A future Democrat president will surely order Trump's name stricken off it later. Perhaps it should then be re-named USS Bonespurs?
Unfortunately these new aircraft carriers and other naval ships will be technologically behind the times, no matter what. Trump is sacrificing superiority for quantity.
By the time these new ships come out, they will already be in massive need of retrofitting.
Congress has already limited his own budget. Which he has mentioned will be worked around. In other words cheaper technology. Steam engine catapults.. like really, instead of proven magnetic catapults!
We could have had 3 or 4 MORE aircraft carrier battle groups (and thereby lessen the strain on the ships and their crews) for the amount of WASTED money we're spending on military bases in non-NATO Muslim countries over a two decade period in the Middle East, predominately in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates.
We do NOT need military bases there. They are stationary targets! An aircraft carrier battle group is not and can go where it is most needed.
@beckyromero An aircraft-carrier may be mobile but it is still a potential target, and a very significant one to the enemy. Its main defensive advantage over a land base is that it cannot be hit by ballistic missiles even if within range.
The ship isn't expected to be commissioned until 2034 (and given the delays the Ford class has had in construction, that probably too optimistic.)
Voters haven't elected a president with a beard since one-termer Benjamin Harrison.
And the only other bearded presidents? Garfield didn't even last one term. Hayes was a one-termer. Grant's eight years in office were mired in scandal and he was nearly bankrupt when he died. And like Garfield, Lincoln was assassinated.
A long long time ago. JD has more of the scruff look popular now than a beard. The dems will nominate a commie. Regular dems and all republicans vote for JD. Done. Hopefully you haven’t gotten caught up in the commie nonsense. @beckyromero
