As far as I and many on the actual left are concerned the Clintons are Republicans that got lost on the way to the RNC.
Also it is a matter of scale. Trump looks the Clintons and Nixon look like choir boys.

I'm conservative enough to know that there is no such thing as an "ideal" politician, especially these days. Essentially, it's a "market for lemons", bad ones eliminate any possibility of getting a good one...
