Shopify CEO Wants to Strip A HUNDRED MILLION AMERICAN CITIZENS of Their Voting Rights.

Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke, whose company commands a market capitalization near $154 billion, told his social media followers this week that a tax-tiered voting system—one that would strip voting rights from anyone who pays no income tax—would be a "good system."

There are all sorts of reasons why A HUNDRED MILLION AMERICAN CITIZENS don't pay any federal income tax. Maybe they are exempt because of their low pay. Maybe one spouse works and the other takes care of the kids (or an ill spouse). Maybe they are exempt because they are retired and don't collect enough Social Security. Maybe they were a victim of a natural disaster or health care crisis and received a tax credit. Maybe they are homeless. Or they are 19 years old and in college.

Here's a thought. Maybe Shopify's Board of Directors needs to appoint a new CEO instead of a Plutocrat.

And maybe those that aren't required to pay income taxes should think twice before doing business with Shopify.

We would get better results if millionaires weren't allowed to vote. At least it would probably lead to more working people making enough money to actually pay income taxes.

Been there, done that. Didn’t work out so well for Prussia.
