Texas Overtakes California in the Number of Fortune 500 Companies

Texas has overtaken California in the number of Fortune 500 company headquarters, marking a significant shift in the competition between the nation’s two largest economic powerhouses.

According to a report highlighted by Fox Business, Texas is now home to 57 Fortune 500 headquarters, compared to 56 in California.

The development represents a reversal from just two years ago, when California held the lead.

The report also found that Texas-based Fortune 500 companies generated slightly more combined revenue than their California counterparts.

Companies headquartered in Texas produced a combined $2.8 trillion in revenue, while companies based in California generated approximately $2.7 trillion.

Texas officials pointed to the figures as evidence that businesses continue to relocate operations and investments to the state.

Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated the milestone in a statement following the release of the data.

“Texas is the undisputed headquarters of headquarters,” Abbott said.

“The world’s leading businesses invest with confidence in Texas because of our welcoming business climate, predictable regulatory environment, and skilled and growing workforce,” he added.

Abbott also argued that both businesses and residents continue choosing Texas because of its economic policies and growth opportunities.

Fox Business reported that several major corporations have either moved their headquarters or legal incorporations to Texas from traditionally Democratic-led states over the past year.

Among the companies cited were ExxonMobil, Chevron, Samsung Electronics America and SpaceX, per The Western Journal.

Several prominent business leaders have also relocated to Texas in recent years.

Among those mentioned in the report were Elon Musk, Mark Cuban, David Sacks and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale.

Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick has also established residence in the Austin area.
