Meet The Press
I'm going to risk walking on thin ice here again. Even before her recent interview where the president walked away I can't say that I like Kristen Welker. Is there anyone else who has a similar impression? I don't know her and can only go on what I see and feel.
Disliking a public figure or journalist like her is indeed a matter of personal opinion, and it is never "wrong" to feel a certain way about someone's professional performance, style, or perceived bias. Political and media figures naturally draw a wide range of polarizing reactions, and Welker is no exception.
I've heard that some viewers find her hosting style on Meet the Press to be too soft or struggle to control chaotic interviews, while others complain that her pursuit of "gotcha" questions or repeated inquiries can be overly aggressive.
Ultimately, media critique is indeed highly subjective. How one feels about her usually depends on what one values most in a news anchor, such as overall neutrality, the amount of aggression shown to hold officials accountable, or overall presentation style.
I do miss Tim Russert greatly though and his time hosting Meet The Press. He possessed that rare ability to ask tough, relentless questions without ever raising his voice or grandstanding. He treated guests with respect while fiercely pursuing the truth.
His relatable "everyman" charm and infectious enthusiasm for politics made complex topics accessible to everyone. This was perfectly captured on election nights when he simplified complex data using his dry-erase board and markers.
