Republicans, answer me this: Why is America, the richest country on earth, only broke when regular people need something?

I’ve heard people say being left-wing is easier, because you can simply say free healthcare for everyone, free education for everyone etc.

Nope, what’s easier is not wanting to think of a solution, and simply pretending that every humane policy is childish because you don’t want to admit that the money already exists.

Right wingers think they are the only serious adults in the room because they ask,

“well who’s going to pay for it???”

No. Serious people ask that question constantly. The answer is tax billionaires, but we can’t do that because they fund the candidates that won’t tax them.

Republicans: you’re not serious, you’re selective. You ask the question when the money helps people, but you forget the question when the money helps power.

Overseas wars? Plenty of money. Billionaire tax breaks, corporate subsidies? Plenty of money. Some shiny item that Trump labels as patriotic? Plenty of money.

But food, healthcare, college, and childcare? Suddenly, America is broke and checking under the couch cushions.

We Left-wingers don’t avoid the hard questions; we ask the questions that Republicans keep dodging!

America doesn’t have a money problem - it has an allocation problem. And if your version of realism means there’s always enough money to protect billionaires and corporations, but not to enough to protect working class families, then you are not grounded in reality.

You are mistaking obedience for economics.

Prove me wrong

It was the Orange one that gave a Covid rebate to ALL tax payers his first term. . He did the same thing through the IRS this term. Lots of regular people from all sides of the aisle were and are grateful.

@AthrillatheHunt Deflection noted.

Nonetheless you are wrong. Trump didn’t give a Covid rebate to ALL taxpayers - not even close. Millions were ineligible due to income, dependency, or residency rules.

And he hasn’t sent a new universal IRS rebate in his current term either. You’re conflating Covid-era stimulus payments with unrelated IRS credits and refunds, then pretending everyone got them.

I call BS.

@Waveney all contributors got a check . You sound angry you didn’t get one
Waveney · M
@AthrillatheHunt Moving the goalposts is cheating.

Eligibility was based on income, filing status, dependency status, and other criteria. Plenty of taxpayers received reduced payments or none at all.

The fact you’re now changing “all taxpayers” to “all contributors” suggests you know your original claim was BS.

"Weapons, not food, not homes, not shoes, not need, just feed the war cannibal animal."
One observation in my time in business is that rich people or big business always claim to have no money. Lol

@JonLosAngeles66 people who understand money know to never advertise having money . Especially here in NYC. Bullseye on your back ? No thanks

Because “regular people” are expected to see to their own needs. The reason the government assists corporations is the corporations provide a valuable service for the government. Invisibly to most people the corporations collect taxes from all their customers. They do this by paying corporate taxes and then baking the cost of that taxation into price of their goods and services which customers pay when they buy.

Corporate taxes are ALWAYS paid by the customer, the companies simply pass the cost through to the customer.
Waveney · M
@redredred Erm... if corporations can always pass every tax directly to customers then why do they spend millions lobbying for lower corporate taxes? By your logic, the tax would never affect them at all.😂

And of course, like a true Republican, you dodged the hard question. Even if you oppose social programs because you believe people should provide for themselves, why is government spending scrutinized so heavily when it benefits ordinary families but often treated as essential when it benefits corporations, military contractors, or billionaires?
redredred · M
@Waveney and I guess you missed my main point. One cannot logically reject the obvious value the government derives from being in bed with corporations. If the government taxed you directly instead of using corporation to collect a hidden portion, citizens would revolt. Take a look at how much of the price of a gallon of gas is taxation.

BTW, Im not a Republican nor a democrat. They are known collectively as the Uniparty. The survival of the Uniparty depends on you and others thinking one wing is better than the other when they are simply the same thing.
Waveney · M
@redredred Dude, you keep changing the subject because you can't answer the actual question. First it was "people should provide for themselves." Now it's a lecture about how taxes are collected. Neither addresses my point.

Why is America broke when it concerns ordinary people, but suddenly has pots of money when it helps corporations, contractors, and billionaires?

Can you answer that?

Oh and by the way, you're actually supporting my argument without realising it...
One cannot logically reject the obvious value the government derives from being in bed with corporations.
Exactly, you're stating that goverments respond favourably to corporate interests because they provide value to them.

And I agree. Government is prioritising corporations over ordinary citizens.

Conservatism is the art of just giving up and pretending there is nothing you can do to improve a bad situation
Waveney · M
@MethDozer I would say the Conservativism is the art of pretending there is nothing you can do to help those who earn less than $100,000 a year.
