If over 100 school children were murdered in the US, it would be treated as the tragedy of the century.

But since it happened to children overseas, it faded into obscurity quickly. Not because it mattered less, but because it was easy for us to look away.

At the same time, we continue to move forward with the very same conflict without going through a War Powers vote in congress.

At what point does this become unacceptable? How much value do we place on the lives of innocent children, and is that value reduced because they're far away?

Let's be honest, it would be treated as the tragedy of a century for like a day and then the politicians of both sides would dig in and treat it as a political weapon to be used or neutralized. Six months later most people wouldn't even register it anymore unless it came from an "outside threat".

Our country clutches pearls over death for very short periods. What we do is hold grudges and look for excuses to attack others.

The moral argument is real. The people who care already know it. The people who don't aren't going to be moved by it.

@SinlessOnslaught Fr I'm so tired of watching TV and realizing it's American every time they mention "9/11", which they do in every single TV show they ever made lmao. Like guys, it's been 24 years. 😆
@Nightwings It's been 24 years, plus the death toll of that day is just a fraction of that of the wars we've contributed to, and even the deaths here at home resulting from our own policies.

@SinlessOnslaught I'm not convinced most people care about the life lost on 9/11 anymore. It's remembered as a rallying cry for victimhood. Maybe it's different in new York itself.

People don't care. Apathy is a plague without a cure.
@EldritchFox Most people who read this post will brush it under the rug.

@SinlessOnslaught I know. I'm so disgusted with human beings. Wrapped in their own petty crap while kids get killed, earth gets destroyed.
Half a million poverty deaths in the US, annually. Deaths of choice for the nation. The foreign policy isn't much worse, USA isn't socialist or cooperative. Y'all talk like you voted for something else!
