Carjacker targets family of eight, Texas Dad guns him down cold

A quiet Sunday afternoon in suburban Texas exploded into violence when a father found himself in every parent’s nightmare — a stranger yanking at the car door with his family trapped inside.

The scene unfolded in broad daylight outside a gas station near a busy roadway in Garland. Surveillance footage shows a man striding up to a parked vehicle and going straight for the driver’s door, apparently undeterred by the fact that multiple people were still inside.

What happened next was over in moments. The father didn’t hesitate. He jumped out and confronted the intruder head-on, trying to block him from taking over the vehicle. As the confrontation escalated, the rest of the family scrambled out, fleeing the car in panic.

Then came a desperate struggle.

The would-be carjacker forced his way into the driver’s seat, grappling with the father before managing to shove him out. For a split second, it looked like the attacker might succeed. But the father circled around the vehicle, reached the passenger side — and unleashed a barrage of gunfire.

More than ten shots rang out. The suspect was rushed to a hospital but didn’t survive.

Police say the father immediately handed over his weapon and has been cooperating fully. Early indications suggest he won’t face charges. As one officer put it, his actions “seemed to be self-defense.”

“It kind of all happened like really fast,” the shaken father later said — a stark understatement for a confrontation that turned life-or-death in seconds.

Authorities confirmed the suspect had crashed into multiple cars earlier and then tried to break into at least two other vehicles before zeroing in on the family’s. Whether drugs, mental distress, or something else fueled the rampage remains unclear.
