Illegal Alien Attacks Mother and Toddler in Broad Daylight at Texas Park
A 3-year-old girl is recovering from serious injuries after a violent attack at a South Side San Antonio park that authorities say also left her mother injured and led to the arrest of a 24-year-old illegal alien facing multiple felony charges.
Police say the incident unfolded in a matter of moments and ended only after bystanders stepped in to restrain the suspect before officers arrived.
Authorities identified the suspect as Atharva Vyas, who was taken into custody at Espada Park on April 18 following the alleged assault.
According to San Antonio police, officers responded to reports of an active disturbance in the 1700 block of Southeast Military Drive, where multiple witnesses were already physically restraining the suspect when they arrived.
Investigators say the victims, 27-year-old Gabriella Perez and her young daughter, were at the park with family and fishing when the encounter began unexpectedly.
Speaking to KSAT, Perez said that the man was a stranger and approached without warning before allegedly becoming violent.
Police reports and witness accounts indicate Vyas allegedly struck Perez and grabbed her by the hair, causing her to fall while holding her child. During the struggle, the child was dropped to the ground.
Authorities say the situation escalated further as the suspect allegedly continued the assault while the mother attempted to protect her daughter.
The child sustained severe facial injuries during the incident after having her face bitten and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Medical information cited in local reports indicates the 3-year-old suffered trauma significant enough to result in the loss of two teeth.
Officials have not released an updated medical condition but confirmed she was treated for serious injuries, according to NRI Pulse.
Witnesses at the park intervened after seeing the attack unfold. According to police and statements from those present, several bystanders rushed in to physically restrain Vyas, preventing further harm.
Officers later credited the quick response of those individuals with stopping the assault before it could escalate further.
When officers arrived, they found Vyas already being held down by a civilian. He was arrested at the scene without further incident.
Authorities have emphasized that the presence of multiple witnesses played a key role in controlling the situation before law enforcement could take over.
Perez later described the attack as sudden and deeply traumatic. She told reporters that the situation escalated rapidly and left her unable to react before help arrived from bystanders in the park.
