This is the attitude all Democrats need to have.

Historical Context

In June 2025, the Texas state legislature initiated a mid-decade redistricting gerrymander designed to increase the number of republican House seats from Texas. In Nov 2025, A three-judge panel in El Paso blocked the Texas gerrymander maps.

It went directly to SCOTUS where opponents, mostly democrats, demonstrated algorithms that could measure the fairness of district maps, and argued that the Texas maps violated the Voting Rights Act and the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.

On Dec 4 2025 SCOTUS overruled the block, allowing the Texas maps to be used in 2026. The Texas map secures, at least for 2026, a map that analysts say strengthens Republican control in a state where white voters hold 70% of districts despite being 40% of the population.

Present Day

SCOTUS said mid-decade gerrymandered maps are legal and allowed them in Texas. So other states, blue states, are following suit. If it's fair for Texas, it's also fair for California, Virginia, North Carolina, and others. Florida is trying to get in on the game.

Another point: Texas' legislature did the redistricting without consulting voters. California and Virginia put it to the vote. I'd say voter approval makes those gerrymanders more legitimate than ones done entirely in the legislature.

@ElwoodBlues Yeap! And I was one of the many that voted for it to be on the ballot.

Further note on the California redistricting map.

Candidate for governor Chad Bianco in California seized a good number of redistricting votes. It's currently in the courts, yet Bianco is going against state voting laws for not giving those votes to the election officials. Chad Bianco is a county sheriff. Nothing more and he still has those votes!

I'm all for democrats supporting fair districting. But it's time the republicans took the first step because democrats have been taken advantage of for trying to play fair for far too long.
Red and blue. Pathetic!
