I think it was beneficial for Vance et alii to have been in the same room as the Iranians and to assess directly the likelihood of realistic negotiation. Plus, they can now say they tried. The nuclear red line seems more important than ever.

@Strictmichael75 The mission objective of the US-Israeli military campaign has to be exactly that, to impose, not to compromise with a regime that has to be overthrown.
And I can think of a long historical catalogue of peace terms that were, in fact, successfully imposed by one side on the other.
