Why doesn't Trump show some guts and send US Navy ships through the Straits of Hormuz?

We have deployed - out of harm's way - two carrier strike groups: the Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea, and the Gerald Ford in the Red Sea.

Sending the Gerald Ford thru the Suez Canal from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea was dumb. It is now in a "fish tank" within range of Iran's hypersonic missiles. The Suez Canal was a tight squeeze. The Houthis are waiting at the Gulf of Aden. To escape, the Gerald Ford will have to get back out to the Mediterranean thru the Suez Canal again. Two hypersonic missiles, one aimed at each end of the Suez Canal, will seal it locking up the entire carrier strike group.

Why not have the countries that are receiving the oil send their navies to escort the tankers? They need to contribute to the cause also, not just sit back and let the U.S. do everything!

@fanuc2013 Wow, I thought I’d come across all the brainwashed cultists on this site.

I was wrong…

@romell I don’t think @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow is American or Israeli.

Pro tip: Enlist your allies & sell your agenda before you start your war.

But really, the real question is: why didn't the tRump admin foresee that Iran would try to close the Strait of Hormuz?? How did they miss that possibility???
@ElwoodBlues True. It is only a tactic that has been openly discussed for the last 30 years.

The Straits of Hormuz is not closed, Elwood. China-flagged ships are getting through business as usual. Only US and Israeli ships are targeted and barred from using the Straits. Iran is controlling the flow of shipping. The problem is only Iran is supplying oil and gas and fertilizers. Supplies from Gulf States are shut down due to the ongoing bombing of Iran by US and Israel resulting in retaliatory strikes by Iran.

@romell I disagree. Trumps Willie is way to small to get caught in his zip. Cheers!
@sree251 You're right, I misspoke. The Strait is only closed to the West & Japan. Regardless, Iran can read the benchmark prices of world crude just as easily as you and I. Their stated goal is to drive the price really high. And so far they are succeeding.

It is not Iran's stated goal to drive price high. You forget that Iran did not start hostilities. The US and Israel initiated the war on February 27 by attacking Iran bombing targets close to the Hormuz Straits.

@sree251 Here is where Iran stated that goal. Yes, I agree that tRump started the hostilities and that he own the current mess.

Iran tells world to get ready for oil at $200 a barrel as it fires on merchant ships March 10, 2026

... Iranian officials made clear on Wednesday they intended to impose a prolonged economic shock.
"Get ready for oil to be $200 a barrel, because the oil price depends on regional security, which you have destabilised," Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran's military command, said in comments addressed to Washington.

After offices of a bank in Tehran were hit overnight, Zolfaqari said Iran would respond with attacks on banks that do business with the U.S. or Israel. People across the Middle East should stay 1,000 metres from banks, he added.

Tit for tat. Fighting Iranians is like fighting with homeless people. We are rich and they are poor. Is it smart to pick a fight with a homeless guy because he is sleeping on the sidewalk too close to your BMW?
@sree251 Trump and Hegseth also don't understand that it is not 1942. Iran doesn't need a fleet to implement a blockade of a strait 20 miles across.

He'll basic tube artillery can hit targets in a choke point that narrow.

@fanuc2013 The US can tidy up it's own stupid mess, and maybe then compensate the countries that it's actions have caused financial harm to.
