Sending U.S. Navy Ships into the Gulf to Escort Oil Tankers has NO STRATEGIC VALUE.

Trump would be risking U.S. ships and sailors' lives for nothing!

It is foolhardy! Even worse than RN Admiral Tom Phillips sailing with Force Z into the Gulf of Thailand in December 1941. At least Phillips was trying to stop an amphibious invasion of Malaya, not trying to affect the price of gasoline.

The real threat to shipping are Iranian drones, so that job can, in fact, be delegated to the air force. Though… the Arleigh Burke’s Phalanx CIWS system is a useful tool for downing drones.

@beckyromero Fair enough. However, I do worry he might cut the campaign short in the event of a prolonged price spike.
@CedricH says
Well, the Iranians don’t seem to be in possession of any minelayers anymore
That's probably true, but apparently there are other ways of laying mines.

The American officials said Iran is using smaller crafts that can carry two to three mines each to lay them into the strait. While Iran's mine stock isn't publicly known, estimates over the years have ranged from roughly 2,000 to 6,000 naval mines largely produced by Iran, China or Russia.

@ElwoodBlues Interesting!
Not to the US, maybe, but that's usually not what Trump is concerned with.

Think about it. Aside from gas prices, Oil Tanker owners might throw protection money at him, nominate him for prizes, or maybe just help him with other problems.

Maybe mine sweepers. Yet nothing has been mentioned about mine sweepers.
@DeWayfarer Let me correct that now!!

Trump pulled mine-sweepers from the Middle East and they’re sitting in Philadelphia as the Iran War rages

On Monday, a massive cargo ship, M/V Seaway Hawk, was spotted on camera arriving in Philadelphia carrying a quartet of Avenger-class Mine Countermeasure Ships that were based at U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain as the Navy’s front-line deterrent against mining operations in the Middle East until this past fall, when the last of those ships, U.S.S. Devastator, was decommissioned.

... For the next four decades, the U.S. kept minesweepers forward-deployed in Bahrain to deter use of mines in the Gulf region amid fears that Iran could use them to effectively block the narrow chokepoint through which one fifth of the world’s oil supply passes each year.

But that long period of service ended in September with the decommissioning of Devastator, leaving only four Avenger-class ships in active service, based in the homeport at Sasebo, Japan.

Four Avenger -class minesweepers were removed from a U.S. base in Bahrain just weeks before President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on Iran (X/@WarshipCam)

@ElwoodBlues And there you have it. Trump had planned this invasion fully knowing fuel prices were going to go up massively.

Trump doesn't even to want to make plans concerning the world, much less our own people.

He "removed" what little minesweepers we had from the whole region. Just weeks before the announcement.

I bet that is even the excuse he is giving to multiple nations.

And you’re surprised by this?

@RedBaron

Never surprised by Trump's idiotic thoughts.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Well this war is about oil and resources.
So this is how things are ran.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@beckyromero The only way he can really be thrown out is if he loses this war.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Zonuss

At this point, the chief concern has to be Iran's future nuclear weapons program - not the cost at the pump.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@beckyromero True. But I think there's moito this story than that. And they are lying about the number of injured soldiers over there too. 🤔
Don't be silly, they ae provocative targets and profitable to use and replace.
