Had the Pentagon not considered that Iran might counter-attack by aiming missiles at bases used by the USA in other countries in the region - and without being too fussy what else it attacks?

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow The Iranians have hit civilian buildings too, in one or two countries; but whether wilfully or by incompetence I cannot suggest.
The whole mess seems based on a vague hope of sparking a revolution in Iran by Iranians.
More likely, either they and their rulers will unite against the USA and its allies, or the so-called "regime-change" will become a dreadful civil-war ripe for exploiting by Iranian Revolutionary Guard factions, ISIS and other gangs.
Who would "win"? Certainly not the Iranian population. Nor the USA and Israel.

@ArishMell I mean sure. It depends also on how you define it. For example a shot down ballistic missile landed on the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai.
There is no such thing as a war with no civilian casualties. Especially in densely populated cities. The girls school was a remote village in the middle of nowhere with no valid targets for miles.
The only thing it will likely do is unify Iranians against their attackers.
Civil war is a possibility but according to the US military's own previous war games that is less likely unless it is a Syria type scenario.
Where the CIA and co can gather enough ISIS types willing to fight for 15 or 20 years.
Then all hell would break loose. And as you pointed out the Iranian people ultimately lose.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I don't know if the school claim has been verified or found false; but if true there was certainly no excuse.
Why might the CIA want ISIS types involved, though, if the idea is to stop such men taking over?

@ArishMell Dropsite News has actually had a reporter on the ground talking to the families of the kids.
It is absolutely real.
Seriously? The leader the US just installed in Syria was a leader of both ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
You can be a literal terrorist and the US will give you a country as long as you are willing to be a US puppet.
Just like the very first "president" of Kosovo was the terrorist leader of the KLA.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow When I first heard yesterday about the missile strike on the school, the News report said the claim was from Iranian officials and had not yet been verified.
Has the identify of the country that launched it - either Israel or the USA - been identified for certain?
Oh, I know the US government has a long history of trying to control who runs which country since the end of WW2; though it's not the only one, competing first with the USSR and now with the Russian Federation, Iran and China.
A dirty, messy business all round.

@ArishMell Yes. It has been identified as the work of the IDF Air Force.
And the US is alone on this. Russia has what? 2 overseas bases? Maybe 3. China has zero last I checked.
The US has 700 to 1000 depending on how you count them. Not even remotely comparable.
Maybe the US could learn something that some of the oldest nations on earth have done the empire thing and gave up on it long ago.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Thankyou for the confirmation.
I suppose Russia doesn't really many bases outside of its own territory, given how it sprawls round so much of the Northern Hemisphere. China too, is so large it may not need them, but it might have arrangements with "allies" to use theirs.
