It would appear that some people at the top are are not the very best. Which is amazing since the voters elected the very best President that the US has ever had* and he selected wonderful people who were perfect for the job. I wonder where it went wrong?
*according to that President.

@FreddieUK There is a certain delicious irony here in that this current regime in Iran would never have come into being if America had not replaced the previous regime with the puppet Shah way back when and supported his secret police and repression in an attempt to westernise the country. And it looks like they havent learned a thing..But America was the undisputed global power in the region then. Things are different now and a lot of good American servicepeople stand to get hurt.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman And ironically all the factions that revolted in 1979 many that hate each other agree on one thing. They would never live under a US puppet dictator ever again.
So this is an own goal across the board.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow It would be interesting to know just how much this little folly is costing Americans..Those carriers arent cheap to run..What does an F22 cost again??😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Well they have already lost a few radar systems with about a billion a piece.
The Patriot missiles are in the millions of dollars. THADs and similar even more.
And a shahed costs about the price of a Honda Civic.
And Russia has likely shared intel on how to defeats US air defense systems.
The number of weapons getting through seems to suggest that too along with the tactics.

@whowasthatmaskedman Apparently the US exhausted about 25% of their air defense stockpile and spent several billion during the "12 day war" back in the summer.
So the economics of war are not looking good for Americans either.

@whowasthatmaskedman They are big targets but very very hard to sink. But for a mission kill all the Iranians need to do is do damage to the flight deck. You don't actually even have to sink them.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow True. But in terms of a modern military they are dinosaurs...Unless you want to project military might across the world in some kind of asimetric warfare. And there is only one nation that does this..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Pretty much. They are the new battleship which ironically Trump has been trying to convince the navy to start building again. 😂

@whowasthatmaskedman Interestingly it also come down to doctrine too. The Russian and Chinese carrier doctrine actually has a bit more life in it.
Unlike western carriers they are not designed as floating bomber bases designed to attack other countries inland.
The soviet and later Russian and Chinese carriers actually have a different designation that is basically an air craft bearing heavy cruiser.
They are designed not to attack ground targets but to sink western carrier groups.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Trump and his big shiny toys. Definitely compensating for something...Bottom line is that these things are a liability for defence of the nation and pointless within range of the home country because a Military base is easier to protect and cheaper to run. And I bet they arent insured..They dont have to be sunk by the way. They burn real good...😷

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow For an equal power its simple. A group of middling size nukes launched on a high trajectory falling onto the carrier group for an air burst will turn a whole carrier group into a hole in the ocean before any serious defence can engage.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman With an Oresknik Russia can now do the same with conventional warheads. They work on the same principles as MIRV ICBMs but with conventional bombs. Same result, no radiation to deal with.
