Main cause of the national debt is an aging population.

We collected $4.9 trillion in revenue (i.e. taxes) but spent $6.8 trillion in 2024. The deficit of nearly $2 trillion is adding to the national debt

60% of of that expenditure went to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. The bulk of our wealth went to the old and the sick.

Interest payments alone on the $38.5 trillion debt pile are about $1 trillion a year, exceeding the U.S. military budget.

We are 1,000% going to go bankrupt as a country, and fail as a country if we don't deal with the old and the sick.

Well that's the $64K question. How do you propose to "deal with the old and the sick"?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@SunshineGirl The answer is obvious. People are the problem. You will grow old and add to it.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sree251 The obvious answer - euthanasia - also happens to be completely impossible in a humane society.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@SunshineGirl Euthanasia is gory. Elon Musk says the answer is robotics.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sree251 Robots to replace human carers? I think that will make Musk a lot of money but have a negative impact on public finances by cutting the jobs of those who actually pay taxes.

Robots to replace human carers?

No. Robots to replace humans.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sree251 Okay . . not sure how that will help to balance the books.

Balance whose books?

@sree251 Your original post is about the unsustainability of the national debt.

Your original post is about the unsustainability of the national debt.

Correct. It headlined the cause: aging humans. Replacing them with robots solves the debt problem.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sree251 You have not explained what "replacing" entails (if not euthanasia).

Phasing out is a better way to view this. Nobody wants to get pushed off a cliff. We need some creative thinking to solve the problem. Don't look at me. You have a responsibility too.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@sree251 You can't "phase" people out. They are either alive or dead.

I didn't propose replacing senior citizens with robots. My solution is to increase immigration and taxation to support an aging society.

We are phasing out type of people in society and not pushing anyone off the cliff while they are still kicking.

Neither was I.

You will still have an aging population need supporting. This is no solution.
