You can’t even be a Morris dancer in Somerset anymore
without getting jumped.
Apparently.
Churches getting set on fire.
All the time now.
Every other week or something.
He saw it somewhere.
Pie and mash shops disappearing.
Traditional pubs shutting down left right and centre.
British culture — gone.
And he knows exactly why.
Immigrants.
Obviously.
Not because nobody goes to the pub anymore.
Not because beer costs a fiver minimum.
Not because landlords sold up and turned them into flats.
No — immigrants.
Not because Morris dancing only comes out once a year
and everyone takes the piss when it does.
Not because most people couldn’t name a single British tradition
unless it’s on BBC4 at like 11pm.
No — them.
He loves British culture.
Deeply.
He just doesn’t practise it.
Doesn’t go to the pub.
Doesn’t go to church.
Doesn’t watch British films.
Doesn’t listen to British music unless it’s from the 80s.
He’s too busy watching American films,
scrolling American apps,
arguing about American culture wars
while banging on about British values.
But it’s immigrants who don’t respect British culture.
Even though they’re the ones running the corner shops,
the takeaways,
the taxis,
the places that are still actually open.
Even though half of them go to church more than he ever did.
Doesn’t matter.
British culture is under threat
because it doesn’t feel the way it used to.
And if it doesn’t feel the same,
someone must be doing it to him.
He’s not racist.
He’s patriotic.
He’s not angry.
He’s defending something.
He just can’t quite explain what that something is,
how it works,
or why he stopped showing up for it himself.
But he knows this much:
If British culture’s dying, it definitely wasn’t neglected, defunded, sold off, or abandoned.
It was taken.
By people who were never invited anyway.
And as long as he believes that,
he never has to ask
why the pub closed,
why the street changed,
or why culture actually needs people to take part in it.
So he posts again.
