Why does the news always protect white people?

I don't think it is necessarily a case of protecting white people, nor always -- at least with the very few objective news outlets remaining -- entirely the news' fault. Historically it has been common practice to identify race in crime reports when it is a non-white person. The perception, therefore, is that most crime is by non-whites when all the crime statistics clearly indicates that most crime (speaking US here) is committed by white men. This, in fact, often has been encouraged by police departments who readily made Latino and Black mug shots readily available but not so much white mug shots.

These days, of course, most "news" comes from bloviating Cable TV broadcasters, social media influencers, and podcasters with their own political agendas.

My perspective. From a half-century in and around news media.
