@LegendofPeza Yep, Chris Madel was providing legal support to Renee Nicole Good's killer. None of the statements say he has dropped that support, but his tone suggests he might have trouble continuing that support.
@SatanBurger According to the video, Chris Madel is the GOP candidate quitting the race (the speech rec in the video misspelled his name).
Many networks have it; this is from the PBS report.

Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Chris Madel, a Minneapolis attorney who provided legal support to the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good, ended his GOP campaign in a surprise video announcement Monday.
Madel called the recent immigration enforcement operation in the Twin Cities an "unmitigated disaster."

"I cannot support the national Republicans' stated retribution on the citizens of our state," Madel said. "Nor can I count myself a member of a party that would do so."

"I cannot support the national Republicans' stated retribution on the citizens of our state," Madel said. "Nor can I count myself a member of a party that would do so."
These quotes are from the Fox News report:
"I support the originally stated goals of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Operation Metro Surge in locating and deporting the worst of the worst from our state," Madel said.
But he argued, "Operation Metro Surge has expanded far beyond its stated focus on true public safety threats. United States citizens, particularly those of color, live in fear. United States citizens are carrying papers to prove their citizenship. That’s wrong."
While he praised a number of Trump's achievements so far in the president's second term in the White House, Madel claimed that the massive deployment of a couple of thousand federal immigration agents to Minnesota "has been an unmitigated disaster."
"At the end of the day, I have to look my daughters in the eye and tell them I believe I did what was right. And I am doing that today," he added.

@ElwoodBlues Yeah I mean as a GOP person it's likely he sees the shooting as warranted, he's wrong of course and I hope he loses. But he didn't say what he thought about the second recent shooting of the nurse and there's a lot of other stuff. While he likely sees the ice shooting of Renee as warranted, he could also think that a lot of other stuff is unwarranted so good point there.
I'm glad he did the right thing though, I still don't agree with his politics and I hope he loses in court when he represents that fascist but I am also glad that he is calling it out. It's important to voice doubts and is in good faith I believe, even if I don't agree with his views.

There is a Republican who can read the room. Beware that this may just be political savvy, rather than a genuinely held belief..😷
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@whowasthatmaskedman It probably is, I was just hoping they were starting to come out of Milgram's agentic state.
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
By invoking his daughters in his statement gives me hope that he is seriously reevaluating everything.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@MoveAlong I think he is but it's still important to note that he strongly supports ICE. However you know when ICE loses the support of the GOP, I mean oh man... that's bad. Lol. How bad does one have to be to lose even the support of the GOP? A historically racist anti woman group lol.
I'm really glad the guy is thinking for himself though, I do appreciate genuine good faith even though I don't agree with the politics.

Call me cynical but given the timing I wonder if this is a coincidence that it lines up with the Minneapolis PD calling out ICE for detaining off duty cops for the crime of not being white.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yeah at first I was semi happy because I always welcome people to change but some of the comments say this GOP person is actually the lawyer for the killer of Renee Goode. And I don't know if it's true but I could see it, if it is then that was his way of trying to bow out peacefully. That and election is near impossible in MN as a GOPer and with how violent ICE has been, no chance in hell.
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@SatanBurger I hope Jessy Ventura is serious about running again. The people in MN love him and he makes Bernie look like Chuck Schumer. 😂
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I hope so, honestly I'm kind of stupid when it comes to names so I had to look him up as I didn't know this but he's great. We need more of him.

He went on to say: “We don’t need federal troops coming in here without warrants. Some people have said this undermines local law enforcement, Well, it undermines the entire Constitution. The military cannot be turned loose unless it’s a national emergency. They’re going to tell me this is a national emergency?!”
Asked if “they” was a reference to President Trump, he interrupted. “Who was that? You mean the draft-dodging coward? I don’t call him by name…..I spent 17 months in Southeast Asia while the draft dodger was playing golf.”

While this may be a purely political move, it is nice to read words coming from a Republican that contradict the orange narrative.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@trollslayer There's actually a bunch of republicans. I have a video and I forgot the state, I think it's some smaller state where 9 GOP people got booted for voting with Democrats... 9. So there's a lot of moderate center republicans just that it's not being reported as much. Maga has a stronger, larger base even though they don't represent the majority, they now represent the republican majority with center leaners being cast off.
LegendofPeza · 61-69, M
He's also one of the lawyers representing the killer of Renee Good.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@LegendofPeza The GOP candidate is one of the lawyers representing the killer? I didn't know all that, that makes more sense than the GOP suddenly growing a conscience. So basically there's just no chance of him getting elected after what happened.
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@LegendofPeza I don't condemn lawyers for defending people even if they are guilty or have committed heinous crimes. 1. It's their job. 2. If a defendant doesn't have adequate representation it makes convictions less likely to stand or even worse be viewed as illegitimate.
