@SatanBurger Well, we do live in different countries, so I am not in danger from the likes of ICE.

The exaggerated fear of 'phone traceability is common; but what you'd really need worry about is not location tracing but eavesdropping beyond genuine need. The 'phone and Internet companies log the traffic for technical and billing purposes, but not who says what to whom.

So simply recording an instrument having been connected to another instrument is not the problem, usually; but I do not know what powers the US authorities have beyond that.

Yet many people already allow eavesdropping, knowingly, by "smart"-'speakers and the like: do they have no sense of privacy?
