Trump Orders Greenland Invasion Plans from Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).

Military leaders are resisting since it would be an illegal order. Congress already has passed legislation preventing Trump from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO.

Trump's real goal is the destruction of NATO.

Not mining minerals (a trade treaty with Denmark could accomplish that). Not defending Greenland from Russia aggression (Denmark is part of NATO; an attack by Russia would lead to Article 5 being invoked).

We have a MAGA in the White House: a Moscow Agent Governing America.

Trupm reportedly said he wants Greenland because he thinks China or Russia will if the USA does not - without real evidence for that - and he does not want either of those as a neighbour. Understandably, although is attitude to Russia is vague and ambivalent.

Has he ever looked at a map?

Physically, Greenland neighbours Canada, not the USA.

Russia is very close to the American state of Alaska, as the Bering Strait narrows to only about seventy miles; although that far North-Eastern part of Russia is very remote and sparsely populated.

China is a very long way to the South-East of the region.

Such distances would make no difference to any war conducted by missiles and the Internet anyway.

I wondered what Trump would gain from wrecking NATO - apart from the freedom to take over NATO nations by either force or political / economic means. He is already pulling the USA out of many international agreements and organisations, an action of no benefit to America. He has also publicly admitted his disdain for international law and even morality.

He seems to have very self-contadictory international ambitions encompassing both isolation with intense nationlism, and old-fashioned imperialism.

On the matter of geographical neighbourliness, we have this recent curiosity...

A senior Russian politician (Finance Minister I think) and an American business tycoon, Elon Musk, talked about a railway bridge or tunnel connecting Russia and Alaska. This is not a new idea at all, but is so impracticable for major technical and financial reasons, never mind politics, that one wonders why they even talked about it. It appears to have been a purely informal discussion though, hardly reported, and I don't though know the outcome. However there does exist a company or organisation that does propose building such a tunnel!
