This is part of the visa application, a background check basically. Unlike living in Europe if you don’t like it you don’t have to travel to the US. Unlike Europe it does not apply to those who hold citizenship.

And no one is travelling to the US. Being asked to essentially show you haven't been mean about Trump is destroying the US tourism industry.

@SW-User strange I thought that the majority of US tourists fall under ESTA.

@meJess Yes, they do. But in fact it's ESTA and other Visa waiver programs that are being specifically targeted.

@SW-User might want to read the scope again just renewed my ESTA under visa waiver, no social media required only the option to include a username. Maybe I’m just lucky.

@meJess It’s currently optional, but will become mandatory by Febrauary 2026. The proposals are currently open to public comment. Here’s hoping they come to their sentences.
