Historically, Democrats inherit a weaker economy, leave a stronger one. Republicans inherit a stronger economy and leave a weaker one.

@whowasthatmaskedman I'll tell you exactly how Republicans get elected. The situation is a tiny bit more complicated, because Democrats typically implement long-term solutions that will help the economy over longer periods of time. But quite often, especially when it's a one-term president, a Republican will implement supposed economic solutions that stimulate short-term growth at the cost of a weaker economy in a year or two. They do this in their last year in office, so that their successor appears to be inheriting a strong economy and screwing it up. The successor then implements real solutions, but often is tasked with the difficult, sometimes monumental job of getting those solutions passed in the face of a hostile Congress. By the time he gets the economy back on track, too, is on his way out, and all of the benefits to what he's done don't kick in until he's out, so it looks on the surface like the Republican fixed what the Democrat messed up.

Then they do it again, because it works. And it works at the expense of folks like you and me.

@LordShadowfire Congratulations. You just won my "American who gets it" award🏆. What you say is totally accurate. I might add that both sides of US politics play a role in this same farce.. And that both sides give out more to their donors and special interests than they collect in revenue. So the nation is going to be impoverished for probably a century. Trump has managed to destroy all the goodwill of the world in the $US. And this time the sky really IS falling..😷
