Just a quick reminder about America and climate change.

Since the Industrial Revolution, America is the largest climate polluter by a significant amount.

China's recent growth in emissions is exacerbated by American hyperconsumerism.

America didn't participate in COP30 this year.

America is the birthplace of climate denial.

COP 30 cleared 8 miles of protected jungle so that 50,000 people could drive in style on a new four lane highway to Belem after arriving in the private aircraft.

The road does not connect local communities according to the state government of Para just the airport with Belem.

The airport was expanded to accommodate 14 million passengers, a 100% increase.

Anyone who didn’t go might have a point 😁.

@meJess Nice bit of spin.

1. Yes, the road exists, but no, it wasn’t personally commissioned by the COP30 Dark Council just to chauffeur VIPs in limousines.

2. The highway plan has been around since 2012, not birthed overnight because climate negotiators demanded a red carpet through the rainforest.

3. Officials literally stated it’s not an official COP30 project, but of course you know better than the government of Pará and the summit organizers.

4. The airport expansion serves long-term civilian traffic too, not just 50,000 conference guests arriving in synchronized private jets like some climate-themed Avengers film.

5. And while deforestation happened (which is NOT a good look, granted), presenting it as a bespoke jungle-massacre solely for COP30’s convenience is… let’s say, impressively creative storytelling.

I will just add, though, that I am NOT happy with it personally.
