Putin has at least been consistent in making clear his aim is to subsume Ukraine into his Greater Russia. He had NO reason to do so other than his own greed.
NO-ONE pretends the EU has the same armies it had in the past. The EU has no army anyway. Its individual nations have those, though I do agree a lot smaller than in the Cold War days.

The difference is Russia has about 10 times the population and can absorb those loses. Ukraine cannot.
The average age of a Ukrainian soldier is somewhere between 45 and 50 now.
This war was started by the US and NATO. But you want to pretend the empire you live in are perfect angels because of your feelings.
Putin has been very clear what this is about. But you have made up his motives based on American claims. You have no interest in the truth or facts. Just blind pro American ideological beliefs.
You are pretending exactly that by denying objective reality. They cannot fight your ideological holy war with imaginary soldiers.
The US is the greatest danger to world peace and has been since 1945. That is objectively true.
Ukraine is an American puppet used for cannon fodder by the Americans and the EU so they can feel like they are still imperial powers and still relevant on the global stage.

@Khenpal1 All of this is public information if you bother to look into it. The problem is most people just blindly believe anything their 6 o'clock news tells them to believe. No thinking or educating yourself required.
@Khenpal1 Just an example. According to statements made by the Ukrainian Rada and Ukrainian media they have charged over 450 000 people for desertion from the AFU.
That is more than the UK, France, and Germany combined can field.
And those are just the ones facing charges. Another scandal in Ukraine right now is there are thousands more deserters that are not reported by their commanders who just pocket their paychecks.
All of these things can be verified and easily found.
@Khenpal1 And great job proving you know nothing about WW2 either. Although the Ukrainian fascists lost that one too. But they were given refuge in Canada and the US. That is why their evil ideology was brought back to Ukraine first in the 1950s and then the 1990s.

@VeronicaJane Zelensky sold out his country for an American and EU proxy war. And they lost.
Bottom line they can surrender now or wait till they are at the Polish border.
Both can be true at the same time. Zelensky and co forced the issue. And he lied his way into office too. He got elected promising reconciliation. And now he has just declared himself President for life.
And keeping the war going keeps him in power indefinitely.

Fun fact, the people who run Ukraine fought for the Waffen SS and the west has been rehabilitating the Waffen SS in support of this proxy war.
